Upon your arrival in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, you will be greeted by the expedition team and transferred to a comfortable hotel. This day is all about settling in, recovering from jet lag, and perhaps taking a moment to explore the city. You’ll meet your fellow climbers and receive an initial briefing on the upcoming adventure.
A well-deserved rest day is crucial for acclimatization. You can explore Islamabad, visit local markets, or simply relax at the hotel. The day’s leisure allows you to adjust to the local time zone and mentally prepare for the expedition ahead.
Today, you’ll take a domestic flight from Islamabad to Skardu. This flight offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Skardu, you’ll feel the change in altitude. It’s essential to take it easy and allow your body to adapt to the higher elevation.
In Skardu, you’ll receive a comprehensive expedition briefing, covering safety protocols, climbing strategies, and other essential information. This day is also dedicated to final gear checks and last-minute preparations, ensuring that everyone is well-equipped and ready to begin the trek.
Your expedition truly begins as you embark on a scenic drive to Askole, the last accessible village by road. Along the way, you’ll witness the landscape transforming into rugged terrain. Arriving in Askole, you’ll set up camp, marking the start of your trekking adventure.
You’ll start trekking through breathtaking valleys and picturesque landscapes. This day’s journey takes you to Jhola, where you’ll set up camp surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains.
As you continue the trek, you’ll gradually gain altitude. You’ll pass through stunning scenery, including streams and rocky terrain, before reaching Paiyu, a campsite with incredible mountain views.
A well-deserved rest day in Paiyu allows your body to further acclimatize to the increasing altitude. It’s an opportunity to relax, catch up on rest, and take in the breathtaking surroundings.
The trek resumes, taking you to Urdukas, another high-altitude campsite. The terrain becomes more challenging as you ascend, but the mesmerizing vistas make it worth every step.
Today’s trek continues upward as you make your way to Goro II, getting closer to the Broad Peak Basecamp. The air becomes thinner, and you’ll feel the effects of the high altitude more distinctly.
You finally reach the Broad Peak Basecamp, which will be your home during the climbing period. Set against the majestic backdrop of the mountain, this is where you’ll prepare for the challenging ascent.
This extended period is dedicated to acclimatization, summit attempts, and rest at the base camp. It’s the heart of the expedition, during which you’ll make multiple efforts to reach the 8,047-meter summit of Broad
After the intense climbing period, it’s time to start cleaning up the base camp. This process involves packing up gear and supplies, ensuring minimal environmental impact, and preparing for the descent.
You’ll begin your descent, retracing your steps back to Goro II. Descending allows your body to recover from the high-altitude challenges you faced during the climbing period.
Continuing the descent, you’ll move further down to Khuburtze. The lower altitude provides welcome relief, and you can enjoy the changing scenery as you descend.
Your descent continues as you make your way to Mundung, a campsite at a lower elevation. This day offers an opportunity to reflect on your accomplishments and enjoy the natural surroundings.
The trekking portion of the expedition nears its end as you descend back to Askole, where you initially began the trek. This marks a significant milestone in your journey.
Today, you’ll drive from Askole back to Skardu, completing the ground portion of the expedition. This drive offers a chance to reminisce about your adventure in the mountains.
In Skardu, you’ll attend a farewell and debriefing session with your expedition team. This is a time to share your experiences, celebrate your achievements, and provide valuable feedback.
You’ll take a flight from Skardu back to Islamabad. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in the capital city, where you can relax and unwind.
With a day of leisure in Islamabad, you can explore the city’s cultural attractions, shop for souvenirs, or simply relax at the hotel. It’s an opportunity to transition back to city life.
Your incredible Broad Peak Expedition concludes as you’re transferred to the international airport for your final departure. This day marks the end of an extraordinary adventure in the mountains.
